Fishball pingpong is a coming-of-age story about how a simple girl is propelled from her hawker lifestyle into the glamorous world of the Youth Olympic Games. When a key player on the Singapore table tennis team meets with an accident, Coach Ma begins hastily to search for a replacement. Candy Ong is an uncouth, bashful and typically tomboyish girl but fillial daughter and granddaughter with a heart of gold. Coincidentally, Coach Ma notices Candy's natural moves with her fishballs as she instinctively uses her ladle and bowls to great effect. He immediately thinks he has found the ideal replacement. But has he?
