The Gift of Charity Donations

What typically stops us from donating to charity?

Life.

While I firmly believe that nearly every human on this Earth has the will to donate, they feel that they lack the money to pay and the time to volunteer. While this is certainly the case for some people it is also possible to create money and make time. No, I'm not talking about money counterfeiting, I'm talking about the internet. There is now a plethora of new and unique ways to make donations to reputable charities without doing a thing you would not normally do.

Freerice.com is a good place to start. This website can easily replace some of your free online gaming time. You are given a word and a list of definitions; choose the correct definition, donate 20 grains of rice to hungry people. While that may not sound very significant, it adds up quickly. Not only is this site intended to help feed the starving people in this world, but also to improve your vocabulary skills. The rice is donated through the UN World Food Program and is a sister site of Poverty.com. It is free to play and in less than twenty minutes you have donated at least one bowl of rice and hopefully enhanced your vocabulary. Can't beat that!

Another great site is thehungersite.com. Simply click on the small banner of the home page of the website and donate 1.1 cups of food, to help fight hunger, for free. You can click under the animal rescue tab to donate .6 bowls of pet food. Click the breast cancer tab to help a woman get a mammogram. In all, there are six different causes listed so donating is easy and free. Next time you are searching the internet without aim, I suggest making a short trip to The Hunger Site and clicking away.

If you spend your internet time shopping you can also shop for a cause. If you shop through The Hunger Site, proceeds from sales of goods can go to everything from children's literacy to the rainforest. Holiday and birthday shopping from this site is a great way to find some very unique gifts. Want to do more shopping? You can also head over to eBay. They have set up a foundation where you can buy and sell products for a cause. To find out more about the products or how to sell, visit communitygives.org.

There is a warning though, once you start donating for free it becomes addicting; to feed your addiction visit thenonprofits.com. This site is a wonderful website to make a large variety of clickable donations. Fight cancer, stop violence, clean the oceans and plant a tree all with a couple of clicks. Many of the sites listed provide information relating to the individual cause as well as resources to help improve conditions. If you're not sure what your cause is, or you want to do as much as you can in as short a time as possible, these are a couple of the better sites for your charitable nature.

So next time you find yourself Googling the phrase, "bored" (which is searched for an average of 5,190 times a day according to WordTracker) try to make a little fun for yourself by giving back to your fellow man, or tree, or animal, whatever your cause may be.
